O’Bricks Irish Pub and Martini Bar
427 12th St West – downtown
I am writing to invite you to our first campaign event: next Wednesday’s happy hour at O’Bricks Pub on 12th St West, downtown Bradenton. Share your thoughts on the issues facing our school system going into the 2014-15 school year. Or join us to just unwind, watch World Cup action and relax with other friends of the campaign. Light hors d’oeuvres will be provided. I hope to see you there.

Dear family, friends and colleagues,
Yes, you read that right. I’m running for School Board. Let me tell you why.
Our current board lacks one very important perspective – that of an educator. Having been a teacher for 10 years, I understand what students need to be successful.
In addition, our school system is in recovery from a multi-year period of mismanagement and still faces a $9 million deficit. I’m running for school board to ensure fiscal responsibility which will protect the taxpayers, and best serve the 40,000+ students, of Manatee County.
Donations of any size will make this campaign successful. Funds will be used for campaign outreach materials. You can donate here or mail a check to the address at the bottom of this email. You can also click, like, forward, share or retweet my social media to help spread the word.
Please see the links below to get involved.
Donate, vote, win – for students.
Thank you for your support,

First let me say thank you for your interest in my campaign for School Board of Manatee County.
I have a basic platform and candidate statement on both the votemanatee website (look for school board district 2, half way down page) and also my own blog for the campaign at https://charliekennedy.org/
In short, I have a few basic principles as the foundation of my campaign:
1. moving resources to early childhood education
2. the responsible sale of (or not selling) surplus school board properties
3. a bigger role for school board members in direct service to students
and 4. making sure we are devoting many more resources to the needs of students as the first priority.
I also have some ideas I’d like to implement about the school calendar (so it makes more sense for students) and also utilizing the large student body of talented high school students who wish to serve in the community. I think the school board could do a better job of matching up interested students and non-profits in need of volunteer help.
Basically, the reason I am running is because I believe it is time for some new faces and new energy on the school board. And finally, I think it is time to have an educator on the school board. Someone who has been in the classroom (public, private and charter school experience) and knows the experience of teachers and students to be a voice on the school board. It’s going to be an interesting and energizing summer of campaigning leading up to the August 26 primary. I hope I can count on your support.
Even the smallest donations will be put to good use on campaign marketing materials, voter outreach and GOTV efforts. Donations can be mailed to:
